Batsi Andros Greece: a beautiful, quaint fishing town in Andros

Batsi Andros Greece: the laid back, beautiful, seaside village. It’s a super a quaint fishing village with whitewashed houses scattered along the surrounding hills, a sandy beach right in the heart of town, and cutesy local shops dotted along the waterfront.

Andros is great for foodies, beaches and hikers!

Located just a short drive from Gavrio, where the ferries dock, Batsi Andros is perfect for those looking for a mix of laid-back charm and a some chic bars. It’s the kind of place where you can sip coffee at a harbour-side cafés in the morning, explore Andros beaches during the day (like the stunning Agia Marina), and enjoy a cocktail at a small beach bar in the evening.

I specifically recommend going to some of the restaurants and beach bars at sunset; views for days!

It’s one of my favourite alternatives to the busier islands of Santorini and Mykonos but without the crowds!

Hotels in batsi Andros greece

If you’re heading to Batsi, I really recommend Erato Apartments. It’s clean, comfy, and in the best location — like, two minutes from Batsi beach and close to all the little shops and cafés in the village.

The rooms have kitchenettes (handy if you don’t want to eat out for every meal), balconies with sea views, and Wi-Fi that actually works, which isn’t always a given on the islands. Plus, there’s free parking if you’ve got a car rental.

Honestly, it’s such a solid place to stay — quiet, relaxed, and just super convenient for exploring Andros island. Nothing over the top, just a great little base where you can chill after a beach day.

How to get to Andros

Getting to Andros is super easy – head to Rafina port and jump on a ferry for around £15.

batsi andros greece

Get a ferry!

  • Athens (Rafina Port) to Andros: ~2 hours
  • Tinos to Andros: ~1 hour
  • Mykonos to Andros: ~2 hours
  • Syros to Andros: ~1.5–2 hours

Top tip: Rafina Port is much smaller and less hectic than Piraeus, so it’s a breeze to navigate. You can grab a coffee or a bite to eat before you hop on the ferry. 🚢

If you’re relying on public transport, there are buses from central Athens (like near Victoria or Pedion Areos) to Rafina Port. Or, if you’ve rented a car, there’s parking available at Rafina, so you can leave your car behind if you want a pedestrian-only island adventure.

Pro tip: Book your ferry tickets in advance during summer or weekends—it can get busy!

Things to do in Batsi, andros

If you’re heading to Batsi Andros, you’re in for a authentic, foodie, quaint getaway! Think: charming Greek fishing village. It’s the perfect spot to relax, explore, and try some of the famous Andros food. Whether you’re looking for laid-back beach days, waterfront dining, or a bit of local nightlife, Batsi has something for everyone. Here’s what to do while you’re there.

Wander Around the Village & Harbour

Make sure you walk along the waterfront of Batsi village; expect to see a tonne of cats, small shops, cafés, and local tavernas. The harbour area is especially picturesque at sunset (I would stop every day to take pictures!), with fishing boats bobbing in the water and a lively atmosphere in all the restaurants and bars on the waterfront. Pop into boutique stores for unique souvenirs ( have a look at the unique Greek jewelry of mythical medusa heads!) or relax at one of the cafés with a coffee and people-watch.

Spend a Day at Batsi Beach

Right in the heart of Batsi is a beautiful sandy beach that’s perfect for a lazy day by the sea. Which is exactly what I did. The beach has tonnes of sunbeds and umbrellas (it’s a sandy/pebbly beach so you may be a bit uncomfortable in some bits with a towel). When you’re feeling it, visit the tavernas nearby for snacks and drinks. Agia Marina Beach is another stunning option just a short walk away, with crystal-clear waters and a more peaceful vibe.

Chora – the Capital of andros

Chora is such a good day trip from Batsi – about 25 minutes by car, and totally worth it. It’s got a more traditional vibe than Batsi, with cute narrow streets, local shops, and little squares perfect for a coffee stop. Read my full guide on Chora so you dont miss anything!

If you’re into a bit of history, there’s an old castle, some churches by the sea, and a few art museums. Even if you’re not big on sightseeing, it’s just a nice place to wander and take in the views. Definitely one of those places where you feel like you’ve stepped back inf time a bit.

🧿 Check Out the Monastery of Zoodochos Pigi

This one is not far from Batsi, this monastery is one of the most important on Andros island. It’s peaceful, historic, and the views are stunning. If you’re into a bit of history or just love a quiet, scenic spot, it’s worth a visit.

🌿 Hike to Ypsili Archaeological Site

Fancy a bit of adventure? The Ypsili archaeological site is one of the island’s hidden gems. It’s an ancient fortified settlement from the early Iron Age, perched on a hill with panoramic views. A bit of a trek, but if you’re into Greek history, it’s a fascinating spot.

Batsi Beach is right in the village and it’s a sandy beach with calm waters, making it great for swimming. It’s super convenient if you want to pop from beach to taverna in minutes. Plus, there are sunbeds and umbrellas, but plenty of room to just throw down your towel too.

Both! It’s family-friendly with safe swimming beaches and a relaxed vibe, but it’s also a lovely spot for couples looking for quiet evenings by the sea.
