Best places to stay by Angkor Wat in Siem Reap

So! You're going to visit Siem Reap in Cambodia, and of course, Angkor Wat. And for good reason! The place is an absolute gem, and it was actually my favourite place in Cambodia - and if you're a history or culture buff, then even better because it ticks all the boxes. I list here some of the best hotels in Angkor Wat and Siem Reap - if you are after luxury hotels, or serene Imagine this: sipping fresh lemongrass tea in a luscious jungle hotel whilst you listen to the birdsong. And obviously, you'll be wanting to visit Angkor Wat, which is one of the main attractions there, you'll honestly be stunned when you see some of the twisting vines, the carved faces into aged rock and the towering temples. But there's more to Siem Reap than just visiting the temples. Siem Reap has a vibrant and lively atmosphere, with the bustling Old Market, charming cafes, and delicious street food that will tantalize ALL of your taste buds. So you wont regret booking some Siem Reap accommodation the next time you visit.

And the locals... They are some of the friendliest and honest people you'll meet in Cambodia - they're all quite happy to tell you their personal stories from the war which are touching, outstanding, heart breaking and sometimes funny and positive. It's quite hard to hear some of them, and lovely at the same time to hear the success stories that arise from them. You'll see for yourself when you arrive. The surrounding countryside is absolutely stunning, with picturesque landscapes, luscious rice fields (we were lucky to be taken to a local viewpoint of some rice fields!), and we got a sneak peak of some tranquil villages that offer a serene escape from the city buzz. So look no further for a stay in Krong Siem Reap Cambodia!

Which Temples should I visit in Angkor Wat, Siem Reap?

If you're limited to only one day here are the top 3 temples you need to visit (in my opinion).

  • Angkor Wat (It's the most famous one!) - stop to see the famous 'Fat Monkeys' and 'Fat Toads'!

  • Bayon Temple - the temple with over 200 incredibly carved smiling faces all over the walls

  • Ta Prohm Temple - the temple with overgrown trees, the roots have grown all over the temple walls making this look like it's straight out of the jungle - which it is. Also, Lara Croft Tomb Raider (with Angelina Jolie) was filmed here!

What to do in Siem Reap? Best days out

Have a look at my full guide on Siem Reap of things to do.

Obviously, everyone in Siem Reap will visit the fantastical ruins of Angkor Wat; it's a stunning place.

But it's worth your time to explore Siem Reap: you should always check out some of the other activities nearby, such as the floating village of Siem Reap on Tonle Sap Lake, Cambodia. The official name is Kampong Phluk Floating Village Siem Reap. If you're looking for things to do in Siem Reap, check out my other blog here, but it includes Angkor Zip Line, Angkor National Museum, Angkor Hot Air Balloon, Ang Chek Preah, the Angkor Night Market on Siem Reap River, the Angkor Wat Vespa Tours and Taphul Village, all recommended to me by Maison Polanka.

How to get to Siem Reap

We flew into Phnom Penh and got the bus up to Cambodia Siem Reap, which was fairly comfortable and the journey took around 6 hours. You can also fly into Siem Reap International Airport direct. You can also travel from Ho Chi Minh to Siem Reap (or vice versa) by bus; just make sure you have the correct visa if you need it. You can also fly to Siem Reap from Bangkok, which we nearly did but decided to see what Phnom Penh was like first.

Best Places to stay in Siem Reap

Look no further, here's my round up for the best places to stay in Siem Reap and around Angkor Wat. I stayed in 4 of them (we kept extending our stay!) so I can give my honest opinion on Siem Reap hotels. If you're after 5 star hotels, private pools, hot tubs, floating breakfasts, or a glamping experience, they've got everything here. I was lucky enough to experience it all!

Maison Polanka

This boutique hotel was my favourite place, a great choice for romantic break away from all of life's stresses! This gorgeous luxury hotel in Siem Reap is the perfect place for couples or just a luscious stay for you and your bestie. Nestled deep in the jungle (feels like, anyway), it's only a short distance to the city centre of Siem Reap, the old French Quarter area and the beautiful ruins of Angkor Wat - it is less than 10 minutes from all the local attractions, just a short walk away. The pool is the perfect place to rest and relax during the hottest hours of the day and that's exactly what I did. Everything in this hotel is so well thought out, from the sunhats and sun loungers by their outdoor pool, to the way they brew their fresh, delicious lemongrass tea, the perfect way to enjoy Siem Reap. Sit back, relax and enjoy this perfect place near Angkor Wat.

Also. They had the best croissants I have ever eaten - warm and buttery, they were spectacular. And given that I've been to France about 50 times, this is saying something! But perhaps the reason for this is that the lovely owners of Maison Polanka come from both Cambodia and France and they've kept the special recipe for their croissants in the family. Coould you ask for any more from this Angkor boutique hotel?

Tip: Book the green room if you'd like a fantastic stunning views - it has its very own pool view, and is just an incredible room with the largest private balconies (or terraces) I've ever stayed in!

Templation, Siem Reap Cambodia

So these rooms are pretty outstanding, it's the ideal place for a romantic retreat; we agreed it's one of the best hotels we've ever stayed in. The rooms were really well designed, we had access to all the usual modern amenities including our own fridge, kettle, safe (all the usuals), free WiFi and luxurious king size bed. We were pleasantly surprised to see that we had not only 1, but 2 outdoor bathrooms! There's nothing like having a hot bath outside, listening to the birdsong and crickets sing. We also had our own private pool, which included a jacuzzi/hot tub section and a separate building for our living room. TIP: I recommend you get the floating breakfast for an extra special stay! We also got a couples massage in the spa, the perfect romantic stay. I recommend.

Navutu Dreams Resort & Wellness Retreat

One of the best hotels Siem Reap has to offer. This is a gorgeous stay with a curved, outdoor swimming pool, sun loungers and day beds. The perfect location for a little snooze after a long day of temple tours. It's got some excellent, well thought out design and the luscious green gardens compliments the whole place. The perfect wellness retreat!

Templation Jungloo

We decided to stay 1 extra night at Templation and thought we might try out their Jungloos for a romantic getaway! I was quite impressed actually..! They were very spacious and cosy, and we still got our own private pool to cool off in! Definitely worth a stay, I really enjoyed it and still felt like I was having a luxury stay, despite it being more of a glamping experience! I was also told that it was ergonomically designed to be more eco friendly; the air conditioning and fan was positioned in such a way that it circulates around the room using less energy. All the bathroom amenities were made of wood and bamboo, giving it that very eco friendly feel. The perfect place for one of those short breaks away you'll always remember.

Park Hyatt Siem Reap

Well. You can't go wrong with the Park Hyatt in Siem Reap! Park Hyatt Siem Reap is one of those luxury hotels you won't want to miss; with world-class amenities and impeccable service as always. Every afternoon you'll be dying to come back for a swim in their outdoor swimming pool. Consider getting a lovely massage in their spa. It's just a stone's throw from all the local attractions. It's in a great location; it's walking distance from the Old French Quarter.
