Best area to stay in Da Nang & things to do

Look no further for the best area to stay in Da Nang, Vietnam.

I have just finished a month touring around Vietnam and so many people skip Central Vietnam and Da Nang, so I figured I’d write a bit more about it and the best area to stay in Da Nang! It’s one of my favourite spots in Southeast Asia.

There’s so much to do in the area; the best area to stay in Da Nang can vary depending on what you want, but it’s general location is great because it is close to Hoi An, Hue, Ba Na Hills Sun World Theme Park or just hang out on the famous My Khe Beach, there’s something for everyone here and it’s definitely worth a visit.

Danang / Da Nang has some of the best hotels (trust me on this one), so I figured I’d write a bit more about it and some of the most beautiful beaches in all of Vietnam. If you’re looking for beachfront hotels or buzzing hotels in Da Nang City Centre, keep reading for the best area to stay in Da Nang.

Danang, Vietnam

My personal experience of Danang, or Da Nang, can only be described as a foodie town. Expect a crazy number of restaurants on every street corner, hundreds of fairy-lit cafes; a super modern, neon lit, vibrant city with high-rise buildings. The best area to stay if you’re a foodie is right in the centre of town next to the river, of course.

But there are plenty of things to do in Danang too. Every day I was grabbing a fresh coconut shake by the beach and picking up a bowl of Pho or Bun Cha – yum!

Booking hotels

I always choose to book through Booking.com because I always get the lowest possible price because I have a genius level 3 discount. The more you book through Booking.com, you’ll rank higher on their Genius rewards, and get better discounts, they even have a best price guarantee.

This gives me great discounts on the hotels I choose to stay at! I will therefore link through to Booking.com. So get booking for one of the best short breaks away & get looking for the best area to stay in Da Nang below!

Things to do in Da Nang

It’s worth checking out my blog on things to do in Danang as it comes with a full photo guide, but I give a quick summary below.

  1. Dragon Bridge – This is an excellent starting point – the best of all of Da Nang’s bridges. Every weekend at 9pm, the Dragon Bridge showcases a spectacular performance, spouting fire and water. This 15-minute display draws in massive crowds, including both local Vietnamese and international tourists, eager to see a dragon spurt fire. The Dragon Bridge symbolizes Da Nang’s identity and frankly… it’s pretty cool to see in real life.
  2. Da Nang Helio Night Market – The night market is literally 2 minutes from Dragon Bridge, offering a lively atmosphere where you can grab a mango smoothie or some grilled food, browse stalls selling a variety of products from shoes to portable fans and souvenirs, and if you’re lucky, you might spot some live performances too; it’s, again, a popular spot for locals and tourists alike.
  3. Marble Mountains Danang – Climb the stairs to enjoy the scenery and discover the Buddhist pagodas tucked away in the mountains of this cluster of five marble and limestone hills (mountains), with some pretty spectacular panoramic views of the city and the coastline; just remember, don’t go at midday as it can get very hot.
  4. Danang Beach, My Khe Beach Da Nang – Relax and soak up the sun at My Khe Beach, one of the most picturesque beaches in Vietnam. With its soft white sand and clear turquoise waters, it’s an ideal location for swimming, definitely the best area. TIP: if you want to see how crazy it gets on a Friday night or the weekend, check it out. 1000s of locals end up on the beach, it’s quite a sight to see. And on a weekday, it’s virtually empty!
  5. Son Tra Peninsula and Monkey Mountain – Explore the thick, green luscious forests of Son Tra Peninsula, also known as Monkey Mountain, visit the Linh Ung Pagoda with its towering Lady Buddha statue, and stop with a little picnic to watch the breath taking coastal views from the mountain; however, be cautious about staying for sunset because the roads here are uneven and bumpy, making it difficult to get back after dark.
  6. Da Nang Museum of Cham Sculpture – If you have time, it’s worth a visit to check out the Cham Museum showcasing Champa civilization at this museum, where you can see hundreds of fascinating Cham artifacts, including stone sculptures, pottery, and ancient artwork; I didn’t know much about it, but it’s captivating to see.
  7. Han Market – Browse through the chaotic stalls selling fresh produce, clothing, handicrafts, and local delicacies. It’s great fun!
  8. Da Nang Cathedral, Con Ga Church – This beautiful pink church is worth a visit and it’s located right in the city centre. Admire its Gothic architecture in unusually vibrant pink glory!
  9. Da Nang Foodie Scene – Thìa Gỗ Restaurant Da Nang is the best place for some delicious food; we went straight to the number 1 rated restaurant on TripAdvisor (under local eats) and it did not disappoint—I’m not sure if I’ve ever seen more restaurants in one place. You can’t miss some of Danang’s yummiest dishes, so try their regional specialties like banh xeo (Vietnamese sizzling pancake), mi Quang (turmeric-infused noodle dish), and bun cha ca (fish cake noodle soup).
  10. Sun Wheel – Head on over to the Sun Wheel, which is in the Asia Park complex. As one of the tallest Ferris wheels in Vietnam, it offers stunning views of the cityscape, the Han River, and the nearby mountains to the north and south.

There are plenty of great places to stay in Danang, so here’s your full guide on all of them, these are the best hotels in Danang. Da Nang Airport is just a short drive away from the town centre; around 15 minutes!

The Memory Danang

First up, take a look at The Memory Danang, the ideal place to start and an architectural wonder.

It seems to be one of the best hotels / best hostels in Vietnam, certainly one of the most instagrammable ones anyway. We opted to stay in a private room, but it generally has very affordable prices; there are dorms available from around £10.

Honestly, the architecture is so beautiful with their circular bathtubs, circular rooms and hanging green plants. But that’s not it! Their service is what makes it extra special. You get a pretty exquisite breakfast, with freshly squeezed health juices or ginger teas.

You can also pick out the scented soaps, shampoos and conditioners whilst you’re there. You’re in the best area too, it is close proximity to the gorgeous sandy beach of Da Nang: My Khe beach! It’s just a short walk – 5 minute’s walk to be exact.

My Khe beach is one of the best beaches around, with golden sands, crystal-clear waters, water sports and gorgeous views.

My Khe beach stretches down the coast until it reaches Non Nuoc Beach which spans 5 kilometres and situated in front of the Marble Mountains; it is worth a visit for a quick day’s trip!

This is not to be confused with Mercure Danang French Village Bana Hills Danang Vietnam – I actually stayed in this hotel, but it is situated in Ba Na Hills amusement park, 45 minutes away from Danang and you’ll need to access it via a cable car ride.

Visiting Ba Na Hills (sometimes called Bana Hills Danang) and the Golden Hands Bridge is probably the best trip in Central Vietnam that I’d recommend and full of natural beauty!
